New leadership for veteran Queensland community organisation

Queensland-based non-profit Access Community Services (Access) has welcomed an experienced psychologist and senior executive to lead the organisation as it strengthens its legacy of supporting individuals and families across the state.

Access, part of the SSI Group, has operated in Queensland for over 30 years, and will now fall under the stewardship of Robert Hoitink as SSI’s new Queensland State Director.

SSI CEO Violet Roumeliotis AM said since Access merged with SSI in 2018, the organisations had been working to streamline reporting structures, while also safeguarding the important role of local service delivery to support communities across Queensland.

“Robert is stepping into this role as an experienced registered psychologist who has worked with a broad spectrum of clients in a range of settings in organisations, private practice and in a psychiatric hospital.

“In addition to his career as a psychologist, Robert has a broad range of skills and experience developed over 25 years in the Australian Public Service, including over a decade at the senior executive level,” she said.

Ms Roumeliotis said SSI’s decision to merge with Access in 2018 was driven by a recognition of the importance of retaining local expertise and connections in Queensland communities.

“We recognised the importance of saving local jobs in our sector and also ensuring continuity of service for the communities of Queensland,” she said.

“Since then, we have seen Access go from strength to strength, working in, and with community to ensure individuals and families have the opportunity to realise their full potential.”

Ms Roumeliotis said this would be further enhanced with Mr Hoitink’s appointment, replacing interim State Director Etienne Roux, who has moved to a new role with Fortify Health Group.

“Robert brings a wealth of knowledge and experience from across Federal Government including in immigration, border protection, refugee, humanitarian and settlement policy and program management.

“Robert’s experience in government has provided him with a unique policy perspective on issues relating to multicultural policy, migration and issues impacting global people movement,” she said..
