Iftar is often a community event, with people gathering to break their fast together. In accordance with this tradition, for the second year running SSI has changed its fortnightly Community Kitchen from lunch time to evening, to provide Iftar for people and join with them for the evening meal.
On July 1, Mission of Hope, which supports the health and community needs of the Sydney Muslim community, generously provided an Iftar meal, prepared and served by the group’s volunteers. Mission of Hope also generously donated food hampers for people supported by SSI.
SSI Acting Manager Community Engagement and Capacity Melita Smilovic said that Mission of Hope had been so generous with meals that the leftovers were distributed to even more people in need through SSI offices at Ashfield, Parramatta and Auburn.
“The support of our people by Mission of Hope has been overwhelming and we really appreciate their generous provision of meals and hampers and also their goodwill and time,” said Ms Smilovic.
“Many of our clients celebrate Ramadan so we are grateful that they have chosen SSI as an organisation to support.”
